How to measure your wheelchair dimensions.
By using the following instructions to measure your wheelchair, you will be assured that you are ordering the correct chair dimensions and or replacement component dimensions.
DailyGlide and SmoothGlide (G1 + G3)
Seat Width
To determine the seat width of the DailyGlide/SmoothGlide manual chair, please measure from the outside edge of the seat frame tube as per the picture. This is vitally important when ordering replacement upholstery panels.
The sequence for replacing upholstery panels is:
- For Seat Width – measure from outside to outside edge of chair seat frame tube. (Where upholstery panel is attached)
- For Seat Depth – measure existing seat upholstery panel from front edge to rear edge
- For Back Height – measure existing back upholstery panel from bottom edge to top edge.
NOTE – ENSURE CHAIR IS FOLDED OUT BY PUSHING DOWN & OUT ON THE OUTSIDE EDGE OF THE SEAT PANEL PRIOR TO MEASURING.
Seat Depth
To determine seat depth for the DailyGlide/SmoothGlide manually propelled wheelchair, please measure from the front edge to the rear edge of the seat panel as per the photo (left). Try and allow 2 – 3 cm of clearance behind the clients knees / legs and front edge of the seat panel.
Backrest Height
To determine backrest height of a DailyGlide/SmoothGlide manual wheelchair, please measure from the top of the seat panel to the top front edge of the backrest panel as per photo 1. Please note that this will be your “effective” or clients required backrest height, not the overall panel size, as the panel extends down below the seat by approximately 2.5cm as per picture 2.
If you are replacing the backrest panel please provide the dimension as per picture 2 (overall panel height).
*Please note: Our panels are made in increments of 3cm eg. 40cm, 43cm, 46cm etc.
For backrest heights exceeding 52cm backrest extensions are required. Backrest extensions are made in increments of 10cm, up to a maximum of 40cm.
Backrest Height
To determine backrest height of a DailyGlide/SmoothGlide manual wheelchair, please measure from the top of the seat panel to the top front edge of the backrest panel as per photo 1. Seat Height
To determine seat height of a DailyGlide/SmoothGlide manually propelled wheelchair, please measure from the front top edge of the seat panel to the ground in a vertical alignment as per the graphic (left).
Knee to Heel Length
To determine the knee to heel dimension please measure from the inside edge of footplate, to the top front edge of seat upholstery, as per graphic (left).
Allow for the thickness of the seat cushion in your measurement.
LightGlide Manual and ElectraGlide powered wheelchair (G2 + Series 4)
Seat Width
To determine seat width of the LightGlide/ElectraGlide wheelchair, please measure from the outside to outside edge of the seat tube as shown in the picture (left). Ensure that the chair is folded out by pushing down and out on each side of the seat panel. The seat panel measurement will be slightly less than the actual chair width. eg 46cm wide wheelchair will be 45.5cm.
All width measurements are in centimetres with increments of 3cm.

Seat Depth
To determine the seat depth of the LightGlide/ElectraGlide, please measure from the front edge to the rear edge of the seating panel as show in the picture (left).

Backrest Height
To determine LightGlide/ElectraGlide backrest height, please measure from the top of the seat panel to the top front edge of the backrest panel as shown in the photograph (left).

To determine the seat height dimension, please measure from the front top edge of the seat panel to the ground in a vertical alignment as shown in the graphic (left).
Knee to Heel Length
To determine knee to heel dimension please measure from the inside edge of the footplate, to the top front edge of seat upholstery, as per the picture (left). Allow for thickness of the seat cushion in your measurement.
TiltGlide and ComfortGlide Powered Wheelchairs (Series 6 to 9)
Seat Width
To determine seat width please measure from outside of seat frame as pictured. Try and allow 1cm clearance per side of client. Eg. If client measures 44cm across hips when seated make chair width 46cm.
Seat Depth
Before determining seat depth, please select which upholstery type you will be using, as this will affect the seat depth dimension. This also applies if you are using a custom seating module or propriety back system. Eg Jay etc.

Backrest Height
Please note on the TiltGlide/ComfortGlide, cushion height is the same across the range.
Deluxe Style Upholstery = 580mm
Basic Foam & Ply = 560mm
The upholstery can be adjusted in height by loosening the clamps and sliding it up or down to your desired position
When requiring custom height backrest frame, please measure from the top of the backrest mounting frame to the base of the frame mounting lug.
Custom cushion sizes can be produced upon special request, please contact your nearest agent or Glide Rehabilitation Products directly to organise this.
Seat Height
To determine seat height, please measure from the ground up the side of the castor wheel, fork and mount up to the side rail of your TiltGlide/ComfortGlide, please ensure you measure as vertically as possible and that your measurement does NOT include the lug where the swingout attaches.
Knee to Heel Length
To determine knee to heel length on your TiltGlide/ComfortGlide please measure from the inside edge of the footplate up to the side rail, please ensure your measurement does NOT include the lug where the swingout attaches to.
